Bariatric Procedures at Bahrain Defence Force Hospital:

We provide the following bariatric and metabolicsurgeries, in addition for that we deal with the complicated cases and redo surgery from other hospitals. We are currently receiving patients from all the gulf countries as well as Middle East country.

  1. Sleeve Gastrectomy:

The procedure is basically the removal of approximately 80%  to 75%of the stomach and leaving 20% to 25%  of it behind. The section that is removed is the area that contains the “hunger hormone.”These procedures force the patient to reduce the amount of received food, therefore causing significant and sustained weight loss Hormones (Ghrelin) that stimulate appetite are produced in the removed part of the stomach, so the patient does not feel excessively hungry during the recovery diet.

  1. Mini Gastric Bypass:

TheLaparoscopic  mini-gastric bypass procedure is both restrictive and malabsorptive. This means that the procedure reduces the size of your stomach, restricting the amount you can eat, as well as reducing the absorption of food by bypassing up to 200 cm of intestines.

Can diabetes type 2 be cured by these procedures?

Bariatric surgery and specifically laparoscopic mini-gastric bypass has been shown to return 89.5% of patients to normal blood sugar levels in 1 year. Mini-gastric bypass surgery has been proposed as a new treatment modality for type 2 diabetes.

    3. Redo Bariatric Surgery:

Performing surgery as secondary procedure that performed when the initial Bariatric Surgery has failed to achieve the desired results.
